My journey of discovery toward becoming an artist of fine oil paintings did not follow the customary path.
From early on, my life's interests were divided between pursuits of science and also of art - exploring both the logical and artistic sides of nature. Only after an initial career in the former field did I fully transition my focus to painting an interpretation of the world around us.
It was the path I was meant to follow. Only through a commitment to artistic endeavor could I satisfy a deep emotional need to better understand and portray our collective journey as a people. Paintings that provide the viewer pause for introspective reflection to examine our origins, where we are headed, and the common societal bonds that we intrinsically share.
A 'Lafleche' painting strives therefore to transcend the commonplace and reveal the inner beauty found across the full spectrum of our existence. My paintings do not confine one's view to a single, limited, and often repetitive artistic theme but rather open the parenthesis to a broader interpretation of the magnificent spendor that exists throughout our diverse and changing world.
Although primarily self-taught, my work is informed through study of contemporary painters and early masters in numerous books, publications, and presentations. As member of various art organizations including the Artists of Stonebridge, Manotick Art Assocation, and Nepean Fine Arts League, as well as serving committee member to present a wide variety of artists for discussion of techniques, skills, and individual artistic development, I have the good fortune to continuously learn from the collective experience of a wide spectrum of practicing and accomplished contemporaries.
It is my interest and passion to transcend the circumstance of singular time and place to create an awareness of the common thread that weaves and unifies the tapestry of our collective experience.
